Mmmmmmmmm, that’s good blog!
The 2007 Food Blog Awards spotlight some of the best food writing in blogland. And there is some seriously good food writing going on in blogland. 2007 marks the 4th annual FBA and the second year they have been awarded by the Well Fed Network, an amalgamation of 15 separate food blogs. The first two FBAs were awarded by the Accidental Hedonist, but the awards process is much the same.
Here are some highlights from the 2007 awards:
Food Blog of the Year: 101 Cookbooks
This is the creation of San Francisco writer and designer Heidi Swanson. When she discovered that her cookbook collection numbered over 100, Heidi decided it was time to focus on those recipes she loved best. Her blog is all about the recipes, most featuring simple natural foods.
Best Food Blog (Family/Kids): Lunch In a Box
Features dishes suited to box lunches. The author is an American who formerly lived in Japan, and the dishes and suggestions often have a decided Asian flare, including advice on picking a bento box to carry your lunch.
Best Food Blog (Rural): Farmgirl Fare
Farmgirl Fare is about much more than recipes. It includes writing about food and country living on the author’s 240 acre Missouri farm. While it’s fun to read about the donkeys, sheep, and farm happenings, be sure to check the recipes, including the baked goods. Especially the baked goods.
Go to the full list of 2007 Food Blog Award winners.
In parting, I’d like to recommend one food blog, a personal favorite, which was not an award recipient. Coconut & Lime won Best Food Blog (Original Recipes) in 2006. Unfortunately, that category was not part of this year’s awards.
Bon Appétit.

WHICH GROUNDHOG IS RIGHT?
It's Groundhog Day! Will we have an early spring or six more weeks of winter? It depends on which groundhog you ask! Punxsutawney Phil from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania saw his shadow, indicating we’ll have six more weeks of winter. However, Jimmy the Groundhog of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin did not see his shadow, thereby predicting an early spring. Let’s hope that since we’re closer to Sun Prairie that Jimmy is right!
